Tips for success when making a cake with a chocolate shoe:

  • Use High-Quality Chocolate: Use high-quality chocolate for the shoe to ensure a smooth texture and rich flavor. Dark chocolate works well for this purpose.
  • Properly Temper the Chocolate: If you want the chocolate shoe to have a shiny finish and a firm texture, it’s important to temper the chocolate properly before molding it. This involves heating and cooling the chocolate to specific temperatures.
  • Choose the Right Shoe Mold: Use a shoe-shaped mold that is suitable for chocolate making. Silicone molds work well because they are flexible and easy to remove the chocolate from.
  • Be Patient: Allow enough time for the chocolate shoe to set and harden properly in the refrigerator before removing it from the mold. Rushing this step can cause the shoe to break or lose its shape.
  • Handle the Chocolate Shoe Carefully: Chocolate can be delicate, so handle the chocolate shoe with care when removing it from the mold and when placing it on the cake.
  • Use a Support Structure: If the chocolate shoe is large or heavy, consider using a support structure inside the cake to help hold it in place and prevent it from sinking into the cake.
  • Coordinate with the Cake Design: Choose a cake design and flavor that complements the chocolate shoe. Consider using similar colors or themes to tie the cake and shoe together visually.
  • Practice and Experiment: If you’re new to making chocolate shoes, it may take some practice to get the hang of it. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques and designs to find what works best for you.

  • 2 layers Your favorite cake recipe e.g., chocolate, vanilla
  • 1 lbs Buttercream frosting
  • 250 grams Fondant for the shoe
  • 250 grams Chocolate for the shoe
  • Edible decorations optional

ADJUST SERVINGS HERE – 8 servings

Instructions

  • Bake and Prepare the Cake – Bake your cake according to the recipe instructions and let it cool completely. Level the top of the cake if necessary and place it on a cake board or serving plate.
2 layers Your favorite cake recipe
  • Fondant Shoe – Create a template or buy the high heel shoe mold for the shoe shape you want (e.g., high heel, flat shoe). Roll out the fondant (with tylose) to a thickness of about 1/8 inch and use the template to cut out the shape of the shoe sole and upper. Use the fondant to sculpt the shoe shape, combining cutting, folding, and molding to achieve the desired look. Leave the shoe to set and dry until firm.
Pro tip – kneading tylose powder into the fondant will help dry the fondant hard which will prevent it from breaking.
    250 grams Fondant
  • Or Chocolate Shoe – Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water or in the microwave in short intervals, stirring in between. Pour the melted chocolate into the shoe mold and rotate the mold to coat it evenly. Place the mold in the refrigerator to set for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate is firm. Carefully remove the chocolate shoe from the mold and set it aside.
250 grams Chocolate, Edible glue or water
  • Assemble the Cake – Frost the cake with buttercream frosting, covering the top and sides smoothly. Place the fondant or chocolate shoe on the cake, positioning it as desired. If the shoe has multiple parts (e.g., sole, heel), use melted chocolate or fondant to attach them to the cake.
    1 lbs Buttercream frosting
  • Decorate the Cake—Add any additional decorations, such as edible flowers, pearls, or other details, to the cake. Use edible glue or water to attach the decorations securely to the cake.
    Edible decorations
  • Serve and Enjoy – Once the cake is decorated, it's ready to be served and enjoyed! Slice and serve the cake, making sure to admire the chocolate shoe before cutting into it.
  • Feel free to customize your chocolate shoe cake with different flavors, colors, and decorations to suit your taste and the occasion.
