Prepare Your Workspace: Ensure your work area is clean, and your hands are washed and dry.
Knead the Gumpaste: Knead the gumpaste until it's soft, pliable, and free from air bubbles.
Roll Out the Gumpaste: Dust your work surface with cornstarch or use a non-stick mat. Roll out the gumpaste into a thin sheet (about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick) using a rolling pin. Cut Out Petals: Use the ranunculus petal cutter set to cut out several petals in different sizes. Thin Petals: Place each petal on a foam pad or flower former. Use a ball tool to gently thin and frill each petal's edges.
Create a Center: Roll a small piece of gumpaste into a ball for the center of the flower. Use a ball tool to create an indentation in the center, giving it a natural look.
Attach the Wire: Insert a thin floral wire into the center of the ball. Twist it gently to secure it. Allow the center to dry for a few hours or until firm. Assemble the Flower: Start assembling the ranunculus by attaching the most petite petals to the center using edible glue or a mixture of clear alcohol and gumpaste scraps. Overlap the petals slightly and arrange them evenly around the center.
Continue Layering: Continue adding petals, working your way outward with progressively larger petals. Ensure that the petals overlap and fan out naturally.
Shape the Flower: Gently cup and curve the edges of the petals to give the flower a natural, ruffled appearance.
Drying Time: Allow the assembled ranunculus flower to dry completely. This can take 24 hours or more, depending on humidity.
Create Leaves (Optional): If desired, cut out leaves from green gumpaste using leaf cutters or shape them by hand. Attach a thin green wire to each leaf and secure it with floral tape.
Attach Leaves (Optional):Attach a thin green wire to each leaf and secure with floral tape.
Optional Center Shading: Use a paintbrush to dust the center with yellow or brown petal dust for a more realistic look.
Final Touches: Trim the stem to the desired length for your wedding cake.
If you have multiple ranunculus flowers, arrange them in a bouquet or as individual decorations on the cake.
